Red Sonja: Queen of Plagues Issue 4

As you may recall, last issue ended with the death of Red Sonja (Dead Sonja?).  So it is not too surprising that we open on Dark Annisia patrolling the fence she demanded built around the doomed city of Patra. Dark Annisia spots an old man climbing over the fence, a task that is not that impressive as the fence cannot be more than three feet...

The story picks up two fortnights after last issue, with Red Sonja is leading her horse through a frozen forest.  The effects of the plague and the isolation are taking their toll on her.  She realizes she has lost the will to care for herself—the only thing keeping her alive is the fact that she is caring for her horse.  Red Son...

Posted my new character background at Lords of Tyr

I always get excited by the prospect of a new campaign, but I had a lot more fun than I was expecting with an impromptu 4th Edition D&D game thrown together by my friend Chad (who blogs over at the Lords of Tyr site).

Because of the impromptu nature of the game, I threw together a Eladrin Warlord, without my usual tendency to overthink things.  I was actually impressed at how quickly I was able to create the character using Wizards of the Coast's beta Character Builder.  So as hard as I can be at times on Wizards, I want to say kudos for a useful tool.

For anyone who is interested, I posted a character background for my Eladrin Warlord over at Lords of Tyr.  I would love to hear what people think of it, so feel free to comment on it either at the Lords of Tyr site or over here.

The real challenge in character creation is not addressed by this program as of yet. As a 4e character advances, his powers and feats may be easily switched out, but his attribute array remains static apart from slow growth at specified levels. This means that a character who wishes a feat with a difficult pre-req (weapon mastery comes to mind) must still plan for it at character creation. While much of this kind of "character build" creation has been rendered a non-issue in the 4e rules set, there are still some holdovers which require that sort of plan. It is clearly possible that functionality of that sort could be added easily enough... but until it is, I don't feel that it is a better tool for character creation than a sheet of college ruled paper (or spreadsheet).
